Los, Angeles, California-based Dead Rock West is lead by Cindy Wasserman
(lead vocals) and Frank Lee Drennen (vocals, guitar). Their debut album,"Honey and Salt" is described as "rock, folk, country, punk, and pop
thrown in a jar and shaken, not stirred" by rock journalist Bart Mendoza
and has earned the band rave reviews in such publications as the Village
Voice, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times.
Their sophomore effort, "Bright Morning Stars" is a collection of
spiritually-based tracks produced by three-time Grammy nominee Peter Case
(of The Plimsouls) with special guests John Doe, Exene Cervenka, D.J.
Bonebrake, and Mark Olson.
"It's a rocker, gospel meets Captain Beefheart, and I'm very proud of it",
says Peter Case. With word of mouth building and an armful of new
recordings the group is ready to hit the next plateau with their own
unique sound that is Dead Rock West.
Their captivating live show is impossible to ignore and their extraordinary musicianship, passionate vocals, and lyrical proficiency
create incredible hooks and harmonies.
Dead Rock West has toured with legendary bands such as John Doe, Wilco,
The Knitters, and Mark Olson, garnering a loyal audience. Their debut
album, "Honey and Salt" has had solid reviews and international radio
play.
Born into a musical family, Cindy Wasserman (vocals, tambourine) is no
stranger to either stage or studio. Wasserman has toured and recorded with
Grant Lee Phillips (on his album "Virginia Creeper"), Mark Olson
(Jayhawks), as well as John Doe (X, The Knitters). She can also be heard
singing on Rickie Lee Jones' album, "The Evening of My Best Day." Frank
Lee Drennen (vocals, guitar, harmonica) has spent time in a number of
groups including Loam and Stewboss, as well as working with troubadour
Gregory Page and former Alarm guitarist, Dave Sharp.
Dead Rock West's debut album, "Honey and Salt," was mixed by Grammy winner
Richard Dodd (Tom Petty, George Harrison, Steve Earle, Traveling Wilburys)
and recorded at Grandma's Warehouse in Echo Park, California.
The album was recorded the way they used to do it: 2" tape, 24-tracks, no
click tracks or pitch correction machines. The CD includes a 16-page
booklet of Frank Lee Drennen's photography.
Three of these songs have been featured in the American television show, "Men In Trees".
