I first discovered Swedish band Winter when they were supporting Eve Selis on a UK tour in 2007 and was instantly struck by their dynamic sound, their onstage presence and their tall and dynamic singer and guitarist, AnnaLena Winter. After the release of their self-titled debut album in 1999 they followed the usual format of playing clubs and festivals but realized that to gain more recognition the second album had to be something special and they decided to set their sights high.

Several contacts were made with possible producers they would like to work with and to their surprise legendary producer MALCOLM BURN who had worked with Bob Dylan and had also received a Grammy for the Emmylou Harris release RED DIRT GIRL contacted the band. So during the winter of 2001, Winter travelled to Malcolm’s New York studios and the resulting album MILLION MILES was released in the autumn of 2002. The album had a very ‘live’ sound, just what was needed and certainly not over produced, no gimmicks or sound effects, rough and ready with a healthy dose of strut and swagger. The sound created could best be described as a mix of the more rootsy aspects of The Rolling Stones, the arena grandness of U2, mixed with the subtleness of the alt-country genre.

Two years later in 2004 Winter decided to return to their roots, wanting to record the follow up back home in Sweden, they liked the home grown feel and wanted to create something more organic and meaningful. TEN SONGS was the result and it was quite simply, ten quality songs. Each song stood up for itself and the release covered many musical genres, rock, Americana along with a hint of pop.

The success of TEN SONGS gained a lot of media interest across Europe and beyond, the band building a healthy fan base in the UK due to regular touring and festival appearances that would include the inaugural Maverick Festival in 2008. The above short biography leads us right up to date with what you now hold in your hands.

A MATTER OF TIME is a collection of eleven new songs from the pen of AnnaLena Winter, complete with new guitarist Fredrik Lidin who completes the current line-up along with original rhythm section, Abbe Abrahamsson on drums and bassist Johan Stromberg. The eleven songs are all on the theme of love in all of its guises, the good and the bad along with a healthy dose of lust and longing. These are songs from the heart of AnnaLena Winter, for the heart of the listener, just sit back and enjoy.
